Project Overview

Captura, a climate technology company pioneering Direct Ocean Capture, partnered with Traina to develop a clear, compelling brand identity and design system that could strengthen its position in an emerging and complex industry. The goal was to translate a highly technical mission into visuals and messaging that felt accessible, confident, and authoritative.

I collaborated closely with the internal design team of Traina throughout the entire creative process. My responsibilities included contributing to brand direction, visual design, and digital execution. I helped shape components of the visual identity, helped refine branding elements, and supported the delivery of key assets such as marketing materials and website layouts. My work was tightly integrated with strategy and design efforts to ensure consistency across every brand touchpoint..

The Challenge

Carbon removal and climate tech are inherently complex topics that are often met with uncertainty and skepticism. Captura’s ambition to scale its Direct Ocean Capture technology required a brand that could convey both scientific credibility and clear purpose. The challenge was to distill nuanced technical concepts into a visual and verbal identity that could resonate with both scientific audiences and broader stakeholders.

Crafting Captura’s user journey

The website was a central piece of the brand activation, designed to showcase Captura’s story, technology, and mission with thoughtful pacing and hierarchy. It was essential that the site not just look beautiful, but also function as an educational and engagement tool.

Key elements of the website design included:

  • Strategic Information Architecture — Organizing content into intuitive sections so visitors could easily understand Captura’s technology and impact.

  • Visual Storytelling — Integrating the new visual identity with photography, graphic elements, and UI patterns that reinforce the brand’s optimistic voice.

  • Clear Messaging — Balancing technical information with clear messaging to connect with diverse stakeholders while maintaining credibility.

  • Interactive Hierarchy — Designing page layouts with clear visual and typographic hierarchy to lead users through Captura’s narrative in a natural and engaging way.

Throughout the build, I worked with the in-house team at Traina to refine page compositions, adapt brand elements for digital use, and ensure that interaction and layout decisions aligned with both aesthetic and functional goals.

GO TO SITE

Social Media Design & Visual Expression:

A key component of Captura’s brand rollout was establishing a distinct social media presence that could communicate complex climate technology in a format that feels approachable, modern, and visually compelling.

A brand designed to go the distance

Beyond marketing materials, Captura’s identity is proving its value in the places that matter most. From vessel equipment to on-site safety gear, the brand appears unified, confident, and immediately recognizable — reinforcing the impact of consistency across every touchpoint.

Printed Collateral & Communications Materials

The materials shown here — including reports, overviews, and informational documents — use spacious layouts, ocean-inspired textures, and the signature radiating linework to create a sense of depth and calm.

The bold typographic system ensures complex topics remain readable and engaging, while the color palette brings energy to otherwise technical content. These pieces demonstrate how the brand adapts fluidly from high-level storytelling to detailed explanations of technology, safety, and environmental impact. As part of the team, I helped translate the visual identity into layouts that feel modern, credible, and distinctly Captura.

Project Summary

Captura’s rebrand was developed to bring clarity, confidence, and visual cohesion to a highly technical climate-tech company. Working as a freelance creative embedded within the Traina Design team, I supported them with the development of branding, digital design, social content, and printed communications. Together, we created a unified identity and website system that simplifies complex science, strengthens Captura’s market presence, and brings its mission to life across both digital and real-world environments.
